Rams News · WPIAL & VNN Sports High School Senior Student Athlete Spotlight Series!

Imagine having your High School Athletic career cut short for reasons beyond your control.  Unfortunately that’s the reality ALL local High School Senior Athletes are living right now.   VNN Sports and the WPIAL Athletic Directors wanted to give these Students added recognition as they get ready to move on to the next phase of their lives.  Here we are recognizing Tori Martrano from Shaler.  Read below for a little more information about Tori.

About Tori:

Tori Martrano is a standout senior for the Titan Softball Team.  As her head coach, Tom Sorce, says “she is the kind of player every coach would love to have play for them.”  Tori, was named, 1st team Big 56 all-section shortstop last year by the coaches in her section.  This not a new situation for Tori, she has been a varsity award winner all three years prior to this year for the Titans.  Last year she batted .437, and had a .930 fielding percentage, made just 2 errors all year, and amazing only 1 fielding error from the SS position.  She was one of the key cogs in getting the Titans back into the playoffs in 2019, which she unfortunately missed because of a concussion.  This even more has her coach’s heart going out to her as this postponement of the 2020 season just added to missing the playoffs last year.  Coach Sorce has felt lucky to not only been able to coach Tori the past two years but during her middle school years as well.   He stated, she is a wonderful young lady, who is very respectful, loves to play the game, and has parents who support her unconditionally.

Tori has not only been important to the team as a player but as a leader, not just a rah-rah leader, but one who quietly lead by example.  She plays hard and practices hard.  All this work has paid off for Tori, as she was offered and accepted an offer of a scholarship to attend Clarion University to play Softball and pursue an education.

If you are a local WPIAL School Athletic Director or coach and you have Spring sport seniors that you would like to see spotlighted here please email vnncares@vnnsports.net.  Include up to TWO images per athlete along with information about the Seniors that you would like to see highlighted.  There is no deadline for this program and we will be running multiple spotlights daily.  Due to the current nature of our situation, this will be an ongoing feature with no current timeline for an end date.
